Chrome plating is the technique of placing a thin layer of chromium onto a fastener for either aesthetic purposes, corrosion resistance, increased surface hardness or ease of cleaning. Applied by electroplating, chrome is never melted onto, or sprayed onto a fixing.
The primary difference between decorative chrome and hard chrome plating is the thickness of the chrome plating on the final product. Decorative chrome plating is thinner than hard chrome and is primarily for aesthetic appeal and as a protective coating.
