About Our Marine Grade Plywood

What is Marine Grade Plywood?

Marine Grade Plywood is a sturdier, higher-quality material manufactured with high-quality face and core biologically durable hardwoods throughout. This type of wood's thin sheets of veneer (plies) is usually set up perpendicularly as part of a process called cross-lamination that helps add extra strength to the material.

Conforms to BS 1088-2003 and certified to EN636-3S (6mm certified to EN636-3G).

Manufactured with high-quality face and core biologically durable hardwoods throughout.

Exterior phenolic resin glue gives long life in high humidity and wet conditions and also provides natural resistance to fungal attacks.

Suitable for marine use, but not for immersion in water, only for water resistant and high moisture.

EN636 - 3 (Class 3) Defines that the product is made from timber that is durable (hardwood throughout) and is suitable for all exterior applications including frequent wetting. Prolonged use in an external application would require boards to be covered or decorated.

The final part of EN636 deals with its suitability for structural use. All the Marine Ply we stock of a thickness 9mm or over is suitable for structural use and is defined by the addition of the letter "S". Boards below 9mm show the letter "G" in their description and are only suitable for General use (non-structural).
