About Our Biscuit Jointing and Dowels

What kind of wood are biscuits and dowels usually made from?

The most straightforward wood connectors are made from beech, birch, mahogany or oak, but they are available in any imaginable wood type. There are also special types of dowels and biscuits on the market that are metal or plastic.

Can I biscuit joint plywood?

Biscuits in plywood work just fine. However, when possible I like registering the biscuit joiner via the base rather than the centre, and with 1/2" material you need to raise the material 1/8" or so to centre the slot on the edge.
