About Our Engineered Bamboo Flooring

What is Bamboo Flooring?

Bamboo Flooring is one of the most sustainable materials you'll ever come across. When it's mature, we cut it for use and a new harvest replenishes in just five years. Although it's not strictly speaking a wood, Bamboo is a family of grass, it forms its own unique grain patterns and can be worked into extremely hard-wearing floorboards, with the natural look and qualities of hardwood.

There are two techniques to turn Bamboo into boards. One is to laminate strips of Bamboo together forming solid boards. The other process is called strand weaving, where Bamboo fibres are bound together and compressed to form boards with the tensile strength of steel.

Is Bamboo Flooring better than Solid Hardwood Flooring?

Bamboo is harder than most hardwoods, which makes it an extremely durable alternative to solid wood flooring. Additionally, Bamboo is termite resistant and comes in a huge choice of stains and plank widths. The cost is generally less than traditional hardwood and, like engineered hardwood, Bamboo Flooring is easy to install for DIYers.

Does Bamboo Flooring scratch easily?

Quality Bamboo Flooring is substantially harder than Solid Hardwood Flooring and subsequently has greater scratch resistance. And if you choose a strand-woven bamboo floor, you’ll get an even tougher product under your feet.

The strand-woven process incorporates a heating method and extreme pressure to compress and bond the bamboo and interlocks the grass fibres into tightly woven material resulting in two to three times (2-3X) the strength of any other form of hardwood.

Is Bamboo Flooring waterproof?

Although engineered Bamboo planks aren’t waterproof, they’re more moisture-resistant than solid Bamboo planks, thanks to the wear layer and the waterproofing on the bottoms of the planks. These floors can be installed in any room in the house, including rooms below ground level and rooms that see lots of moisture, like the laundry room, bathroom, and kitchen. However, while they’re water-resistant, engineered Bamboo floors are not waterproof, so you’ll want to wipe up spills quickly and avoid any standing water on the floors.

What Bamboo Flooring does Champion Timber offer?

The range of colours and styles available in our Bamboo Flooring range means that there's a product to suit just about any decor scheme. Each board is prefinished with five coats of UV scratch-resistant lacquer and they come in tongue and groove or glueless "click" systems, making them just as easy to install as any other wood floor we offer.

Our Bamboo flooring also features a warranty of 20 years if installed correctly. We also have all the underlays, room divider thresholds, room edge scotias etc to finish off the project.
