About Our Thresholds, Scotias & Quadrants

What are Thresholds used for?

Some Thresholds are used for exterior openings, existing to close the gap between the bottom of the door and the floor so there is a good seal and add rigidity to the frame. This helps to drain off the water to the outside rather than the inside while allowing the door to open and close easily.

Thresholds can also be used as floor trims to ensure that the join is perfect for transitions between any type of flooring or for matching heights at door sills. Thresholds and transition strips can be adapted for height differences and cover up any gaps with elegance. They also provide a harmonious transition between different types of floor and can be used as floor dividing and joint cover strips.

What are Scotias used for?

A Scotia is a decorative shape used to cover the gap between the floor and the baseboard running along the bottom of a wall around the edge of a room. Designed in a stylish concave form, it gives the floor a neat border and does an effective job of concealing the space between the floor and baseboard which is purposely left when laying a new floor in order to allow the material to expand naturally. Suitable for use throughout the home, a Scotia is made of hardwearing manmade material or natural timber with a smooth finish designed for long-lasting use. It also makes cleaning a floor easier by preventing dust from getting trapped in the gaps around the edge of a room. A vast choice of styles, shades and effects is available, including ready-to-paint options, allowing households to colour-match their Scotia to their chosen floor or decor.

What are Quadrant beadings used for?

Quadrant mouldings are used to add a little style to flooring projects. Each piece of Quadrant moulding masks the look of joins in walls. Each piece of moulding can be cut down to size to give you the finish you’re looking for.
